Ray was born on 22 May 1912 in China Spring, McLennan, Texas. He was the son of Drew Howle and Dussie Brannon.

In the 1930 census Ray (age 17) was the single son of Drue T Howle in Precinct 4, McLennan, Texas.^[2]

Ray married Camella Trammell on 21 April 1934 in McLennan, Texas.^[3]

In the 1940 census Ray (age 29) was the married head of household in Justice Precinct 1, McLennan, Texas, United States.^[4]

Ray married Adell Drewett on 27 March 1946 in Harris, Texas, United States.^[5]

Ray died in 1994 and was buried in Port Neches, Jefferson, Texas in Oak Bluff Memorial Park.^[6]
