entry reads: July 14th 1739 John Gray in Southdun pesented a child to be Baptized named John begotten in lawfull wedlock betwixt him & Margt Fowler his spouse witnesses John Couper in Southdun and George Geddas in Houstrie [2]

This John is assumed to be the one marrying Hellen BUDGE, not only from lack of alternatives by date, but also because of the Southdun connection, a son John, and baptismal witnesses that look likely to be his brother William and brother-in-law John MANSON[4][5]
