Biography

1. Born about 1738 and married to a Robinson and Joseph Robinson was a witness to her father, John Graham Sr.'s will in July, 1771. ^[1]

2. Cleek reports that this Rebecca married John Bell in January 1787. This is probably incorrect. Rebecca's brother, Lanty, had a daughter Rebecca who is more likely the Rebecca Graham who married John Bell, and Lanty's widow, Elizabeth [Hamilton?] Graham, lists in her will Grandsons named Bell. Furthermore, Elizabeth [Elliott] Graham had many Grandsons and it is unlikely she would have named in her will only her Great-Grandsons named Bell and none of her living children or Grandchildren. Note: It is not clear whether Elizabeth [Elliott] Graham (Widow of John Graham Sr.) or Elizabeth [Hamilton?] Graham (widow of Lanty Graham, son of John Sr.) made the will dated June 1812. Judging by the names of the witnesses, it is more likely the will of Elizabeth [Hamilton?] Graham. More research needed to determine this. Most of the Graham women married between 16 and 25. This Rebecca was born about 1740, and if she were the Rebecca who married John Bell, would have been about 47 years old in 1787. The Rebecca who married John Bell had at least 5 known children, an unlikely probability for a 47 year old woman. ^[2]

3. A marriage between John Bell and Rebecca Graham was also reported. However, Chalkley does not specify which Rebecca Graham. ^[3]
