Jabez Bunting, son of Robert Bunting (Occupation: Cutler) and Lucy Fielden, was born on 18 October 1833 and baptised on 29 May 1836 in the Cathedral Church of St Peter & St Paul, Sheffield, Yorkshire (West Riding), England. ^{[1] [2] [3]} He was baptised again (as an adult) on 14 May 1881, at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. His address was listed as Wellington St, Chippendale. ^[4]

Jabez (age 6) arrived in Port Jackson, New South Wales, Australia on 11 March 1841, on the ship Brothers, with his father, Robert (aged 34, Methodist, Gardener, native of Stockport, England), mother, Lucinda (aged 37, Methodist, Confectioner, native of Manchester, Lancashire, England) and siblings, John (12) and George (9 mths). ^{[5] [6]}
