Biography

Herbert Broomfield was born in Lyndhurst, Hampshire, England.

Herbert was born in 1887.^[1] He was the son of Charles Broomfield and Lucy Stote.

The 1891 England and Wales Census shows Herbert living with his parents, seven siblings and uncle in Emery Down, Lyndhurst, Hampshire, England.^[2] He was three years old.

The 1901 England and Wales Census shows Herbert living with his parents and five siblings in Emery Down, Lyndhurst, Hampshire, England.^[3] He was 13 years old and was working as an Errand Boy.

Herbert's father Charles passed away in 1908 in Fareham, Hampshire, England. He was 68 years old.

The 1911 England and Wales Census shows Herbert living with his mother, two siblings and sister-in-law in Lyndhurst, Hampshire, England.^[4] He was 23 years old and was working as a Gardener.

Herbert passed away on 6 August 1915 in Gallipoli, Gelibolu, Çanakkale, Turkey while serving as a Private in the 2nd Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment. His final resting place is unknown but his name is listed on a panel of the Helles Memorial in Gallipoli, Gelibolu, Çanakkale, Turkey, a structure erected in honour of those soldiers whose remains lie elsewhere.^[5]
