Herbert passed away on 6 August 1915 in Gallipoli, Gelibolu, Çanakkale, Turkey while serving as a Private in the 2nd Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment. His final resting place is unknown but his name is listed on a panel of the Helles Memorial in Gallipoli, Gelibolu, Çanakkale, Turkey, a structure erected in honour of those soldiers whose remains lie elsewhere.[5]
