Mary Brims, daughter of Donald Brims and Catherine Cormack, was born about 1821 and baptised in Watten, Caithness, on 16 December 1821.[1]
In 1841 Mary was living in Knapperfield, in the parish of Watten, Caithness, with her parents and siblings Elizabeth, Alexander, George, Peter and James. Donald's trade was farmer.[2]
In 1851 Mary was living in Kirks Lane, Wick, with her brothers William, Alexander and George, a lodger by the name of James Miller and a servant, a warehouse keeper called Heinrich Haub. Mary's trade was "housekeeper" and it seems likely that she was looking after the home of her brothers and their lodgers.[3]
