Henry was born in 1824 to Timothy Bloodworth and Elizabeth Wheeler. He may have had 12 siblings: James Lamar, Thomas J, Mary Ann, Sereptha Vaden, Rebecca, Martha J, Richard J, Elizabeth, David newton, John, Frances Adeline, and Timothy Caswell.

He married about 1846, possibly in Macon, Georgia, to Isabella Nalus, daughter of John Nalus and Mary Ann Fountain. He was about 22 years old. They had at least 8 children together:
