Angela R. Belt was born in 1971 to Eddie Wayne Belt and Mary Lou Sutton in Christian County, Kentucky.

My father was a Belt and my mother was a Sutton. My grandparents were Belt - Sliger and Sutton - Hargrove. My great-grandparents were Belt - Swansey, Sliger - Lucas, Sutton - Caddell, Hargrove - Battoe. My great-great-grandparents were Belt - Howland, Swansey - Crider, Sliger - Bohannon, Lucas - Cooper, Sutton - Pemberton, Caddell - Doepel, Hargrove - Rickman, Battoe - Hawkins. They seem primarily from Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Maryland ... Germany, Scotland/Ireland, and England.

I enjoy genealogical research and adding family profiles to WikiTree. I also adopt profiles with family surnames. I do so as my time allows. I research daily, but I also have a full-time job, go to college, and a family to care for. Most of my genealogical research has been documented privately and on Ancestry, but I have been steadily copying information to WikiTree.

Notes

Please do not reformat sources on the profiles that I manage. If you have additional information to add though, please do so! The more the merrier! But, honestly, formatting is a preference and how you format the profiles you manage is your preference. How I format the profiles that I manage, is my preference. I prefer using the WikiTree Sourcer to set up my sources and household tables. I like the format it gives to them.
Some of the profiles I manage are a work in progress and I work on them as I have time.
As a genealogist, I really strive to only add information to profiles that can be proven with a source or first-hand knowledge. If you believe that you have found an error in any of my work, please let me know. It is never intentional, so I would be interested in any sources you have.

Welcome to WikiTree and DNA.

My name is John Kingman. I am a Coordinator with the WikiTree DNA Project.

Since you have started following a DNA tag, you may be interested in how you can use DNA test matches with your relatives to strengthen your genealogy on WikiTree. You will find the answers in the Help pages, of which the DNA Help category page shows all the DNA help that is available, and the How to Get Started with DNA page is highlighted. Also the DNA Features page can show you various ways that DNA tests can work with your genealogy.

You may see some relatives show up in your list of "DNA Connections" on your profile if they have added a DNA test to their profile. These DNA Connections are possible DNA test matches, they are not sufficient for marking parental relationships as "confirmed with DNA" without providing a DNA Confirmation source citation providing details of an acceptable DNA match. You may find that you have acceptable matches with some of them. There is more information about DNA Connections on the DNA Test Connections page.

When you are ready to start documenting that your genealogy sources are confirmed by DNA test matches, be sure to follow the guidance at the Confirmed with DNA help page. Also, I strongly recommend using the DNA Confirmation Citation Maker, for creating and/or validating your DNA confirmation source citations. Note that a profile should not be marked "confirmed with DNA" without source citations for both genealogy and relevant DNA test matches.

If you have questions or need assistance, feel free to ask on the G2G Forum using the Tag "DNA" and/or "DNA_Confirmation".

Happy WikiTree-ing!

Thanks for having a Big Heart and taking responsibility for Orphaned Profiles. You will want to read this After Adopting Orphans as it explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. You may also want to go through the new member help on How to manage your Watchlist.

Hi Angela,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles!

It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi Angela,

As you have been a member of WikiTree for a while now, I thought I would stop by to see how you are getting on with the site.

Has the New Member How-To been helpful, or left you with any questions? Let me know if you need any tips to help you get more of your family members added.

I am here to help with any problems or concerns you may have. To contact me, log into WikiTree and go to your profile. Use the ‘Reply’ link below my comment so that I will be notified. Alternatively, you can click my name to visit my profile, where you can send a private message, or post a comment on my profile page.

P.S. Please take your time. Finish one profile - adding locations (including countries), dates, and at least one real source - before moving to the next profile. And if you need help finding reliable information for your family members? The easiest way to find info and sources is to use the handy RootsSearch link on the right side of any profile. Use your WikiTree login to access over 20 websites. Once you find a correct source, copy and paste the citation info and add it to the profile. Learn more about sources here.

Hello Angela,

I find your comments on your BELT line very interesting. My mother decends from the BELT line through her LYLES of Maryland line. Incidentally her maiden name was /is SHIPLEY which is also a Maryland line. If you follow my mother through her WILKERSON line you will come to my gg-grandmother, Ellender Elizabeth (Lyles) WILKERSON, whose father was Abraham Thomas LYLES, s/o Zachariah LYLES and Margery BELT, d/o Joseph BELT. There were many in the prominent families of Maryland whose children migrated to Kentucky, Tenn., Indiana, and Illinois, and many other places. My Abraham Thomas and wife, Mary JONES migrated to Jefferson County, Tenn. Abigail Banks Dennison

I am in the late 1700's and 1800's and haven't seen a Maryland connection as of yet, though I have found a few of my HOWLAND's in Maine, but they moved from my area to there, not vice versa. I will let you know if I find a Maryland connection though! :)

Welcome to Wikitree Angela! My Grandmother was Dorothy (Belt) Boyer, Frye 1916 - 1953. I don't have much on her side but do have her parents and grandparents. She was an only child and died at 37 years old. My mother/her daughter was also an only child. Here is Dorothy's page on wikitree - https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Belt-1201&public=1 The Belt's on my side so far are from IL and IN.
Thank you! As I work on my tree, I will keep her in mind. I do have Belt's in Illinois on my family tree, so I may find a connection. :)

Hi Angela!

Thank you for signing the Honor Code.

Thank you for adding a GEDCOM. The GEDCOM does not automatically populate your tree. It generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through, either accepting or rejecting all suggested matches. Once that has been done, you should see [add] buttons for each of the remaining names.

The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

For those using Chrome, Opera or Firefox browsers, there is a tool that can help with the formatting of profiles which have been created through GEDCOM, so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, let me know. To contact me, please log in to WikiTree and go to your profile. Use the ‘Reply’ link below my comment to be sure I will be notified. You can also click my name to send a private message, or post a comment, on my profile page.

Hi and Welcone Angela

Thank you for upgrading. I am pleased to welcome you as a member of the WikiTree family. Your contributions will go a long way to joining the world’s trees together.

These pages will be the best place to start New Member How-To , they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

Please add as much information as you can, with sources, as it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

To contact me, log into WikiTree, and go to your profile. Use the ‘Reply’ link below my comment so that I will be notified. You can also click my name to send a private message, or post a comment, on my profile page.
