Biography
Margaret (Begg) McKenzie is a member of Clan MacDonald.
Margaret Begg was born in Toftinghall and baptised in Watten on 25 March 1828.
In 1841 Margaret was living in Houstry of Dunn, in the parish of Watten, Caithness, with her parents on the family farm. Also recorded with her on the census return were her siblings Andrew, William, Peter, Catharine and Jean. A William Sinclair (presumably a farm labourer) was also listed as living with the family.[1]
In 1851 Margaret Begg was working on Andrew Begg's farm at Houstry (of Dunn) in Watten. It is likely that he was a relative. Margaret gave her trade as house servant especially as her own parents also had a farm at this location.
A sourced Ancestry Family Tree (including information contained in certificates) states that Margaret, daughter of Peter Begg, is the same woman who married Francis McKenzie.
In 1853 Margaret was named as the mother of Ann McKenzie. In 1861 she was living at Lynegar with her husband and children. She gave her place of birth at Toftinghall in the parish of Watten.
