George was born in 1894 in Gorey, Ireland. He was the son of Scottish parents: Robert Bain and Bessie Leggett. He was raised in the Presbyterian church. George spent most of his childhood in Gorey, and also spent time living in Hampshire in England, as well as County Kildare in Ireland.
George immigrated from Ireland to Canada in 1911. He applied for a farm homestead near Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on April 12, 1912; the first of his family to do so.
George joined the military in 1914 at age 21, and fought in World War 1. He was originally a private promoted to Corporal, then rose to the rank of a sergeant. Near the end of the war, Geroge was awarded the Military Medal, and also was awarded the 1914-1915 star.
George married Donal Bardon in 1925, and together they had four children: Edwin, Daphne, Maureen, and an unnamed baby that died.
George passed away in 1965 at age 71. He was buried in Spruce Home Cemetery in Spruce Home, Saskatchewan.
