Biography

John Andrews, son of John and Jane (Jordan) Andrews, was born about 1646 at Ipswich, Massachusetts. He died in Norwich, Connecticut on 19 May 1717.; m. Judith Belcher, b. Aug. 19, 1658, dau. of Jeremiah and Mary (Lockwood) Belcher, of Ipswich. [1] [2]

Lieut John Andrews of Chebacco Parish Ipswich gave to his Eldest Sonne John Andrews House Carpenter of ye same town his homestead with 8 acres of land confirming to him other pieces of land subject to certain conditions.

On Oct. 25, 1704, John Andrews Jr. sold this homestead given to him by his father to John Wainwright of Ipswich, the deed being signed by John Andrews Jr. and Judah Andrews, affixing her mark. [Essex Deeds]. On Oct. 10, 1704 Thomas Knowlton Jr. and wife Susanna, and Benjamin Baldwin Jr. and wife Hannah, all of Norwich, sold for 280 to John Andrews Jr. of Ipswich Mass, house carpenter, 550 acres of land on the east side of the Shetucket River and to this place John Andrews removed with his wife and children. In 1712 he was given 8 acres of land near his house being for money paid for building the meetinghouse. In 1714 three years before his death he gave all his property to his sons, 110 acres to each, reserving for himself during his life 20 acres together with one half of his house. May 17, 1724, dau. of Richard cook; m. 2nd Sept. 30, 1724, Ruth Gates, dau. of Thomas and Elizabeth (Freeman) Gates, who had lived in Stow, Marlborough, and Sudbury, MA and had removed to Preston about 1703. Jeremiah, b ___; d. at Norwich Long Society, May 7, 1762; m Dorothy ___, who died there May 17, 1761. (p. 108)

Elizabeth, b. Mar. 7, 1684-5.

Benjamin, b. 13 Apr. 13, 1685 sic; d. Norwich about 1769; m. at Norwich, Ann Mix, b. Norwich May 7, 1694, dau. Thomas and Hannah (Fitch) Mix. (Meeks) (p. 108)

Richard, b.__; d. sp in 1768; m. Abiah Robinson, dau. of Peter, who came to Preston, CT from Martha's Vineyard. Richard Andrews sold to his brother Jeremiah, the land east of the Shetucket River which had been given to him by his father, and removed with his wife to Scotland Parish formerly a part of Windham. David, b. ___; d. Norwich, CT abt. 1757; m. Feb.14, 1711-12; Hannah Haskell, b. at Beverly, MA Jan. 23, 1687-8, dau. of Roger and Hannah (Woodbury) Haskell. (p. 109)

Mary, b. ___; d. Mar. 9, 1743-4; m. July 8, 1708, as his second wife, John Roath of Norwich, b. Nov. 1669; d. Mar. 9, 1743-4, son of Robert and Sarah (Saxton) Roath. (p. 106)

Judith, b. in 1694; d. at Coventry, Nov. 3, 1763 in her 69th yr; m. Nov. 24, 1720, Joseph Larrabee, who d. in Jan., 1778. (p. 106)[3]
