It is uncertain if Samuel ANDREWS and his wife Sarah had a son named James. The baptism register (Bishop's transcripts) for Marylebone for 1813-14 do list a James Andrews, son of Samuel and Sarah Andrews.[1]
However, it is curious to note that his birthday (27 May at St. Mary-le-Bone workhouse) and baptism day (17 June) given in the Bishop's transcript are identical to the dates for Jane Andrews.
As a result, it is as yet unclear if there was a James Andrews born to Samuel and Sarah in 1813 or whether the entry is a result of a transcription error (see Research Notes).
Review of the Rough day book of baptisms, 1810-1817 for Marylebone Parish[2] shows the entry for Jane in 1814 (there is no twin bother James listed) and does not show a baptism for a James Andrews in 1813. Similarly, the Index to baptisms of the Marylebone parish registers also include Jane and her brothers Henry and William - amongst other "Andrews" baptisms in the parish, but do not include a James Andrews baptised in 1813.[3] The only "James Andrews" baptism recorded in the index between 1813 and 1822 is on 4 May 1817 and he was the son of Daniel and Mary Andrews.[4]
This would perhaps suggest that the record for "James Andrews, son of Samuel and Sarah" in the Bishop's Transcript is likely a transcription error from the original rough day book where the scribe has read 'James' instead of 'Jane'.
