Biography

Sarah Agnew was probably born in 1872 at Ballydonnelly, Duneane, County Antrim, Ireland. She was the daughter of Robert Agnew and Mary Ewing. There is no birth record for a child Sarah but she appears in later census records. There is a birth record for a child named Agnes in the birth register in 1872 but there are no subsequent records of a child named Agnes. It is presumed the child named Agnes in the birth register was christened Sarah Agnes^[1].

In the 1891 Scotland census, Sarah was age 17 living at Bonhill, Dunbarton with her father Robert Agnew (70), mother Mary Agnew (60), siblings John Agnew (35), Robert Agnew (23), Lizzie Agnew (19), Margaret Agnew (25), Isabella Agnew (21)^[2].

Sarah married Charles Lappin in 1899 at Bonhill^[3]. They probably had 11 children: Mary Lappin (b. 1899), John Lappin (b. 1901), Elizabeth Lappin (b. 1903), Sarah Agnew Lappin (b. 1904), William Lappin (1905-1905), Margaret Strachan Lappin (1907-1908), Charles Graham Lappin (1908-1910), Isabella Cooke Lappin (b. 1911), Alice Rae Lappin (b. 1913), Martha Bell Lappin (b. 1916), James Lappin (b. 1917).
