I have a Gloucester, Massachusetts marriage record for 1813 which states that the groom is a "resident in" and that the bride is "of this town". Can anyone explain the difference implied. Does "resident in" mean that he lives there now, but hasn't always lived there? Does "of this town" mean she was born there, but hasn't lived there for a while, or at least doesn't live there now? I see these terms used often.
