UPDATE: So sorry that I haven't been on WikiTree in a while, I haven't really had time. I'm amazed at how many people showed interest in the project. I was added as a co-coordinator back in May, but the other coordinator left WikiTree and hasn't been active, which left me with a lot of responsibility that I wasn't ready for. If anyone else would like to take on the responsibility of managing the study, that would be great. Thank you so much, and sorry again.

Do you have Allen, Allan, Allin, Allyn, or Alans your family tree? Would you like to join the Allen One Name Study? We’d really appreciate it. The goal is the research and improve as many Allen profiles as possible, and when we’re done, add the ONS sticker.

My great grandmother's LNAB was Allen. My ancestors are mostly from Maine. I have never joined a project before. I reviewed the Allen One Name Studies page and didn't see many specific requirements. Do I have to commit to a specific amount of time, new profiles, etc? Is it okay to focus on my family connections first?  Thanks in advance for your consideration and focus on this surname.
My paternal grandmother was born an Allen. Greta (Gree-ta) Marie Allen born in Idaho.  Lori
What year was she born? Do you know any of your Allen ancestors before her? We'd love to have you in the study.
Grandma was born 1907 in Grangeville, ID.  Her father was George Washington Charles Allen born 1875 in Genesee, ID.  His father was James Bethel Allen born 1846 in TN.  His father was John Calvin Allen born 1811, I don't have his birth location in my notes but I know it's on my computer.  I can give more details later when I turn on my laptop. Grandma's I'd is Allen-21333.

My Great, Great Grandfather, James Allen (1840-1905) came to Australia with my G3 Grandfather Joseph who was born in Roche, Cornwall, UK.

I am led to believe that Joseph's father, my G4 Grandfather, Humphry (q771-1854) was also from Roche.

There were (indeed still are) Allens in the village of Shearsby, Leicestershire (England) where I am working on a One Place Study. For example; https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Walden-2813 Jane Allen who worked as a nurse.

My Allen family are from New England. The first I know of is Samuel Allen of East Windsor,  CT. He died in 1648. I haven't been able to find out where in England he came from or how he came to the colonies.  He is also the ancestor of Gen. Ethan Allen. We have family stories about how Samuel came to CT. But have hit the proverbial brick wall trying to find any proof. My great- great-great grandfather was Amzi Allen of Northampton. MA. and he started a family geneology book called the Amzi Allen book.

Is this still active?  I am a descendant of Allens from South Alabama and South Mississippi.
by Leo Allen G2G Crew (320 points)
I am barely active on WikiTree any more, I look at it frequently to compare what is on my ancestors profiles to what I have in my person Ancestry tree, but I am not really involved in the community at the moment. I wish you luck with your research!

My (Jacobs-10834) Allen's are of the "Southern Branch" of a family tied to George Allen, b.1568, of Sandwich, Barnstable, MA. I am currently engaged in a project to use Y-DNA and autosomal DNA to trace them to a more specific line and learn more about how they tie-in to George of Sandwich. My ancestor, Zephaniah K. Allen, was born in Frederick Co., VA in 1800. His father was a John Allen who married Elenor King, daughter of Aquilla King who died in 1814 in Frederick Co. John had a brother Joseph who married Elenor's sister Mary/Polly in 1809 in Fauquier Co., VA. Both moved to Fairfield Co., Ohio around 1821 and died there. There is a Richard Allen, who married Lucinda Corder, who also moved to the same area in Ohio (Hocking and Perry Counties) who I've tied to our family through Y-DNA. I have autosomal data and about 22 descendants and am trying to get more to share their matches with me so that I can see their sub-20cM matches on Ancestry.com. So far, I've tied an Allen family from Jackson Co., TN to our family via a shared segment; they go back to Rockingham Co., NC and from there to Fauquier and Stafford Counties. I'd love to hear from anyone who thinks they might be connected and would like to participate in my research.

My maiden name is Allen.  I can only find ancestors in my family tree with the Allen last name up to John William Allen in 1752.  My family settled in Louisiana in the 1800s and have been here since then.

My mother was born Sue Ellyn Allen, July,  1920 in Albany, Greene County, Tennessee on the family farm. My 4th great grandfather Robert Allen 1745-1811 was born in Providence, Rhode Island. He married Mary Nisbet in 1769 in Virginia and removed to Washington, North Carolina which later became Tennessee in 1796 according to Tennessee Land records. His wife Mary passed away in 1790 and he married Martha Kerr in March 1791. Their son Daniel Allen ( my 3rd great grandfather) was born in Dec 1791 in Greene county TN on their homestead known as Allen's Landing on the Nolichucky River. Daniel and Martha Kerr Allen were buried in the Allen Burial Grounds Allen's, Landing which was flooded when the Davey Crocket reservoir was formed on the river. Their bodies along with my 2nd great grandparents Isaac and Laura Haigood Allen and other Allen family members were removed before the filling of the reservoir and reinterned in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Greenville Tennessee. My great grandparents John William Allen and Laura Maloney Allen are buried in the Carters Station cemetery in Albany Tennessee in 1892 and 1913. My grandparents, George Lee Allen and Allie Moore Allen  (nee, Lindley) lost the Grassy Creek farm and Allen's Mercantile in Albany during the great depression in 1934 and removed to Miami Florida.
