Alfred Clark was born in about 1858. He was the son of Stephen Clark and Ellen Slade.
At the age of 16 he emigrated from England to New Zealand with his parents and eight siblings, travelling on the ship Zealandia. They sailed from Gravesend on 10 July 1874, and arrived into Auckland on 15 October 1874, under Captain G Sellars, after a passage of 96 days[1][2]:
Clark: Stephen 36, Ellen 36, Stephen Henry 16, Alfred 16, James Edwrd 14, Emily 13, Eliza A 12, Edwin 9, Arthur 5, George 3, Charles 1.
Not sure how he fits into this family. No birth record found and not living with his family in the 1861 and 1871 England Census. He could have been their nephew (son of Edwin and Edith Clark).
