Stephen Clark was born on about 16 November 1836 and was baptised on 25 December 1836 at Rodborough, Gloucester, England[1]. He was probably the son of Edwin Clark and Edith Clissold.
He lived with his parents and siblings in Rodborough, Gloucestershiire.
He married Ellen Slade in 1858[2]. They went on to have at least nine children.

Stephen (aged 36 and a Gardener) emigrated from England to New Zealand with his wife and nine children, travelling on the ship Zealandia. They sailed from Gravesend on 10 July 1874, and arrived into Auckland on 15 October 1874, under Captain G Sellars, after a passage of 96 days[5][6]:

Stephen Clark passed away on 9 October 1884, aged 48, in Auckland, New Zealand and was buried at Symonds Street Cemetery in Grafton, Auckland[7].
