Hans Michael Zimmerman II, aka Michael, is believed to have been born in Pennsylvania about 1732. In North America, Zimmerman was sometimes anglicized in documents to its literal English translation, "Carpenter", or even adopted as a surname by entire Zimmerman families.
Michael married Ann Elisabeth (maiden name unknown) and they had at least two children together. He died in North Carolina before 27 January 1762, when letters of administration were granted to his step-father, Jacob Kurr, for his remaining property in what was then Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.[1]
After Michael's death, his widow, Ann Elisabeth, married John Killian. On 6 December 1785, a son and a daughter of Michael's were mentioned as his sole surviving children in a land transaction regarding his estate, which tacitly indicates they were of legal age.[2] These are the same two Zimmerman children mentioned or implied in Elisabeth's Will from 1 March 1802[3]:
Michael Zimmerman, of whom little else is known except that he had some real estate transactions in Lincoln County, North Carolina with his half-brother, Jacob Killian, in 1794, with his half-brother, Philip Killian, in 1798, and appeared there in the census in 1800.
Catherine Zimmerman, wife of Daniel Smith. Catherine was still alive in 1785 but Daniel is believed to have remarried to Elizabeth Hahn by sometime in the early 1790s.
Seven of Ann Elisabeth's Killian children were also mentioned in her will:
↑ Michael Zimmerman, "Philadelphia Co., PA Letters of Administration, 1762, No. 134". Letters of Administration for Michael Zimmerman, late of North Carolina filed 27 Jan 1762 in Philadelphia Co., PA by his step-father, Jacob [sic] Kuorr, who had "intermarried with Anna Elizabeth Zimmerman, mother" of the deceased.
