Barbara was born about 1630.
She married Christian Haldimann and is the mother of Hans, born in Steffisburg in 1656 [1].
On 29 April 1671, on the baptism record of her daughter Verena, the mention "Anabapt" is written beside the name of Barbara Wyss (it was not the case on the baptism records of her previous children), A note on the Varden Leasa Genealogical database says : the "baptism was carried out against the mother’s wishes". [2]
In July 1673, Barbara Wyss was banned from Steffisburg for being an Anabaptist. Her husband Christian Haldimann then distinguished himself when he intervened with loud cries and equipped with a simple fork at the arrest of his Anabaptist wife. This action earned Christian a prison sentence and the bailiff of Thun also imposed a very heavy fine of 200 pounds on him. Christian and Barbara's family was described as being very poor with many children.[3]
