Biography

Elizabeth Williams[1] was born about 1670, based on her stated age at death.[2] Her parents and place of birth are not currently known.

She married Andrew Vetch by 1690. They were living in Boston, Massachusetts, when their eldest daughter Mary's birth was recorded there on August, 19, 1690. Her husband is last listed as a resident of Boston in an April 3, 1703, Suffolk County Probate document, in which he is admitted administrator of the estate of "his wife's brother, Joseph Williams, late of Boston, Seaman."[1][3][4][5] Quite soon after this, they removed to Lebanon, Connecticut, where the birth of their daughter Sarah is recorded on December 13, 1703.[6]

Elisabeth (Williams) Vetch died in Lebanon on December 20, 1733, "Æ 63" (gravestone). She is buried at Goshen Cemetery in Lebanon.[2]

Research Notes

  • Parents: Elizabeth's parents are currently not known. Our main clue is that we know she had a brother, "Joseph Williams, late [1703] of Boston, Seaman."[1] Some research has been done in an attempt to connect her to the family of Robert Williams (1615-1678), of Boston, who had a son Joseph (1641-1706) who was a Boston "Ferryman." However, she appears to have been born much later than Robert's children, and is in any event not listed in his 1677 will.
FamilySearch had (now merged away) Elizabeth as a daughter of Samuel Williams (1632-1698) and Theoda Parke, but their daughter Elizabeth, b. 11 Feb 1660, married Stephen Paine of Rehoboth and died without children before August 1707.
