He married Sarah Price 22 Apr 1782 in Edinburgh. [2]
James passed away in 1817 and was buried 15 Sep 1817 at Foulden. "Mr Wilkie's Death Not Having Been Registered At The Time Of Its Occurrence The Above Extract From The September Book Was Made Before Witnesses And Signed By The Rev Mr Christinson As It Might Be Presented As Legal Evidence."[3]
