Biography

Simeon/Simon was probably born in Scarboro, Maine. It may have been Cornish or even Parsonfield, but the latter is unlikely.[1] Further to this discussion, "Colonel Simon Jordan Whitten, was the eldest son of Richard and Mercy (Jose) Whitten and was born in Scarboro, Maine. His parents soon after moved to Cornish, Maine, then to Parsonfield, and in 1833 they removed to Troy, Maine, where Mr. Richard Whitten died, June 3, 1845. He (Richard) was a soldier in the Revolutionary War."[2] His parents WikiTree profile are here: Richard Whitten and Mercy Jose.

Richard's occupation is given as a Stage Coach Driver as well as being a military man.

Simon married Mary B. Pike, "Oct. 25, 1810 Simon Whitten of Parsonsfield to Mary B. Pike of Cornish."[3] and they were the parents of 14 children:

Nancy, b. January 10, 1812
Albert
Armine

Hannah
Henry
Ira
Edwin
John
James, b. February 11, 1882

Hi Chris,

I thought that you may find this entry interesting: On 26 Jan 1823, Simon J. Whitten, Esq recorded his livestock brand as a "crop off the right ear and a hole in the same and a slit on the left ear". This appears to be the first time that a Whitten had registered their livestock mark in the town of Parsonsfield, since its incorporation. Whitten-1033 and Whitten-430 appear to represent the same person because: Sorry Chris - when I initially added this fella it didn't show me the this Simon as a possible match (the Simeon spelling of the first name, which I didn't have). Please merge, Mags
