Biography

  • Name spelled as Zacharia in Pittman book; Zachariah in Will and Dibble book.
  • Philip White's Will confirms and ratifies the gift of a slave "and other property and one-half of the Sherifalty and the proceeds arising there from." He was also given another slave.
  • He and three of his brothers Joseph Mills, Philip, and Everett White claimed 240 acres near Tallahassee in 1826.
  • He was a member of the Kentucky Legislature in 1840.
  • After he married, his family lived in a house on the property of his father in law, Col. William Steele. About 1817, Col. Steele turned his log house over to this son-in-law, and it was thought that several members of Col. Zach White's family were buried (along with Col. Steele's family) in the lot in the old orchard near the log house on the river.
  • They spent the winter in their Louisiana plantation, taking passage by steamboat.
  • The 1850 Census included two children, Zachariah White, age 9, and Agness, age 5.
  • The 1850 Census (Slave Schedule) included 26 unnamed slaves.
  • The 1860 Census (Slave Schedule) included18 unnamed slaves.
  • Railey's History of Woodford Co also describes another son, Dr. Thomas White, who married Judith Walhn, a granddaughter of William Railey and Judith Woodson and further states that they had a son Phillip White, who died in Cincinnati in 1902. I was unable to locate information about a son, Dr. Thomas White; instead I found William S. White, who married a Judith A. Wall, and had a son, Dr. Thomas P. White, who became a physician in Cincinnati and died in 1901.
  • The 1870 Census that shows Agnes W. White living with her daughter Agnes Morancey, includes an African American family named Woodson; however, at this time there is no other information available.
