Anarcha Westcott is Notable.

Anarcha was initially known to history as one of the slaves J. Marion Sims used in his medical experimentation. She underwent many painful experimental surgical procedures to repair her fistulas. The procedures were done on Black enslaved women with no anesthesia. Over 30 procedures were done before Dr. Sims had success.
Since J.Marion Sims was known as the Father of Gynecology, Anarcha, Lucy and Betsey have come to be known as the Mothers of Gynecology.
Research continues to determine if she was transported to NYC as the property of William L Maury and laid to rest with a tombstone labeled Anarcha Jackson in the area. The "Remembering Anarcha" documentary explores this possibility.
