Biography

Birth

Jonas Weston was born at Lincoln, Massachusetts, on 23 Oct 1784, the son of Abraham Wesson and Abigail (Allen) Wesson.^[1]

His name in the birth record is Wesson, as it is for the other childen of Abraham and Abigail Wesson in the records of Lincoln, but Jonas appears to have used Weston consistently as an adult.

Marriage

Jonas Weston married Catherine Barton.^[2] On 13 Sep 1818, the town clerk of Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts), certified that "an intention of marriage between Mr. Jonas Weston & Miss Catharine Powers Barton both of Livermore hath ben [sic] entered with me fourteen days prior to this date & ben [sic] published in the Town of Livermore as the Law directs."^[3] On 20 Apr 1819, William Morrison, Justice of the Peace certified to the town clerk of Livermore that Jonas Weston and Catherine Barton were among those "whom I have joined in marriage the year past."^[4]

Biographical Details

From a memoir by Thomas Chase (1804-1884) of Livermore, Maine:

... the youngest son [of Abraham Wesson], Jonas Weston, Esq., or Rev. Jonas Weston, was for many years a prominent citizen of Livermore, also a prominent Methodist preacher. Past middle age he went to Penobscot County, from which section he was a member of the senate of Maine, His wife was Catherine Barton, eldest sister of my first wife.^[2]

Death

Jonas Weston died in 1875, and he is buried at the Corinthian Cemetery in Corinth, Maine.^[5]
