In 1978, Douglas Richardson identified the origins of Thomas and Grace (Wells) Norton as being the area of Shelton, Bedfordshire, England; however, he stated he was unable to identify her parents with certainty.[2] In a followup article in 1980, he identified her father as John Wells.[4] The key evidence was the will of her grandfather which left a bequest to Grace Wells, daughter of his son John Wells. While not 100% conclusive, this is almost certainly the correct ancestry of Grace (Wells) Norton. The will of John Wells, if found, would likely confirm the identification. No wife was identified for this John Wells.
Note: Grace has been detached from Hugh Wells and Frances Belcher as parents. They were not her parents, and they were also not married to each other. More information is on the profile of Hugh Wells and on the bulletin board messages on his profile.

I was following up on a FindAGrave suggestion, and it looks like FindAGrave may have the correct baptism for Grace, 12 Feb 1607 in Tilbrook, Bedfordshire, England. According to the article in TAG 56, her grandfather's will names two daughters of his son John Wells, Grace and the other Prudence. There is a baptism for Prudence Wells, daughter of John, 7 Apr 1605 in Tilbrook. (Transcriptions on Ancestry.com - sorry, I can't do sharing links with the version I use).
Maybe someone could also do some searching to see if there's any conflicting evidence?
There is a son John as well. John married and had a daughter Isabel, apart from the baptisms in Tilbrook I can find no more evidence of them. We’re there other related immigrants?
Thanks. John is also named in the will, so definitely seems to be those named in the will. As far as I know, there are no other known immigrants from the family. Just Grace who married Thomas Norton.
Hi Jillaine, perhaps you missed my comment below where a TAG article by Douglas Richardson identified her as a daughter of John Wells of Lower Deane, Bedfordshire and a granddaughter of William Wells. If you remove the Project Protection we can add these people.
Jennifer, her parents are not known; please review the narrative about this. She somehow got reattached to Frances Belcher, but this has been disproven; I've detached any parents and project-protected the profile.
I don't see any reason why you shouldn't. I looked to see if there were anything newer, and noticed this That says she also m. Francis Bushnell (no Sourcing) His bio has a question about her
Douglas Richardson, "The Ancestry of Grace (Wells) Norton of Guilford," in The American Genealogist (1980) Vol 56 p 170 172 and Vol 54 p 179. Is there a reason not to go with this article? She is a daughter of John Wells, and a granddaughter of William Wells who named her in his will.
23 Jan 2016 - Have now disconnected her from Hugh Wells and Frances Belcher (who were not married to each other) as parents of Grace, with a note in the biography under "Uncertain Parents." Thanks!
