Biography

The Historia Welforum lists Judith as the daughter of Heinrich der Schwarze, Herzog von Bayern and Wulfhild von Sachsen and reports her marriage to Friedrich II von Schwaben.[1] Her birth place is not known and estimates for her birth date vary widely from 1100 to 1110.[2] Likewise, the date of her marriage is estimated to be between 1119-1121[3][4] since their firstborn, the later Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa was born in 1122 according to a letter of Wibald von Corvey from 1152 stating that he was 30 years old.[5] She died 1130, the year she is mentioned as Herzog Friedrich's wife in the capture of Speyer,[6] or 1131, since Friedrich's second marriage to Agnes von Saarbrücken[7] probably happened in 1132. She was most likely buried at Kloster Lorch, with her heart perhaps buried at the Benedictine monastery St. Walburga am Heiligen Forst in the Alsace, however, there is no evidence for such a burial there.[8]

Konrad should be detached as her son. She died before he was born. Frederick then married Agnes von Saarbrucken. Konrad's daughter was named Agnes (c1170-1204).
