Bert Welch is Notable.

Herbert John Welch was born in New Westminster, British Columbia on October 23, 1893^[1]. He was the son of Herbert Welch and Mary French.

At the time of the 1901 Canada Census, Herbert H., Mary, Herbert John, Mary L., Edna B., and George E. Welch were listed as living in Victoria, British Columbia^[2].

At the time of the 1911 Canada Census, Herbert, Mary, Herbert, Lillian, Edna, Earnest, May, Minnie, Doris, and Phyllis Welch were listed as living in Vancouver^[3].

Herbert married Helen Clark in Vancouver, British Columbia on May 3, 1920^[4].

Herbert was co-founder and president of the Olympic Logging Company, which was formed in 1932. In 1949 Olympic Logging Company was dissolved, and a new company named Olympic Forest Products Ltd. was formed with the same shareholders^[5].

Herbert served as the MLA for Comox from 1945 to 1952. He was elected in 1945 as a member of the Conservative-Liberal Coalition government, defeating the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation incumbent by 70 votes of out 7,532 votes cast. He was re-elected with a strong majority over the same opponent in 1949. In the 1952 election, which was run using a preferential ballot^[6], he ran as a Liberal candidate, and placed second to a new Co-operative Commonwealth Federation candidate^[7].

Herbert died in Oak Bay, British Columbia on April 27, 1959^[8].
