Julia (Ward) Smith was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)
Julia Elizabeth Ward was born[1] on Friday, 8th September 1871, the daughter of Henry J Ward (1836-1904) and Mary Ann (Cassell) Ward (1840-1926), in Lewis Ponds, New South Wales, Australia.

Julia married[2] John Brown on Sunday, 4th May 1890 (till Tuesday, 4th November 1930) in Molong, New South Wales, Australia. Together they had 9 children.

OBITUARY.
MRS. J. E. SMITH.
Mrs. Julia Elizabeth Smith passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 71 years. She was a native of Long Swamp[7] and for the last 22 years had been living at Orange, where the was well-known and highly respects. She was the wife of the well-known and esteemed townsman, Mr. James Smith, and a staunch supporter of the Congregational Church, being a member of the Women's Guild. Mrs. Smith leaves a sorrowing husband, four sons and two daughters, John and Albert (Lithgow), William (Cobar), Roy (Orange), Mrs. Murphy (Kingsford), Mrs. McCridden (Coogee), and eleven grandchildren. Sisters and brothers are Mrs. Kelly (Orange), Mrs. Rice (Sydney), John (Manildra), Thomas (Nashdale), Joseph (Sydney). Her funeral took place on Wednesday, after a service in the Congregational Church, the remains being laid to rest in the Church of England portion of the Orange cemetery. Mr. A. McGrath had charge of the mortuary arrangements.
