Biography

Isaac Rowe Walton SR was Burgess for Brunswick in 1761-1765 as well as being listed in the book "Virginia's Colonial Soldiers”: By, Lloyd DeWitt Bockstruck. On page 9 for Brunswick County, Virginia, conflict dates of: 23 Mar 1756 & 22 May 1759 & 25 Jun 1759; in each he is listed as Captain. However, there are listings for a Lieutenant Isaac Rowe Walton, 06 Apr 1749 & 28 Aug 1753; so I am assuming that he was promoted sometime between 1753 & 1756 from Lieutenant to Captain. (I do not know my military ranking very well.) Also listed are his father, Captain George James Walton 04 Sep 1746 and his involvement in a conflict as well. The name of Rowe which was Elizabeth Scott ROWE WALTON 1685 – 1775, his mother's maiden name, is often spelled simply "Row". Emma Leah Chitty Walton [1]

He was a witness in a land transaction in Brunswick County on 1 December 1757:
  • "Indenture made the 1st day of December, 1757, between Robert TAYLOR of Meherin Parish and George SIMMS, for 80 pounds, conveying 250 acres on South side of Meherin River on Coald Water Run, formerly granted by Patent to John RANDALL and conveyed to Robert TAYLOR. Witnesses were M. CHAPMAN, Isaac Row WALTON, and Nathan HARRIS. Acknowledged in Court on December 27, 1757, at which time Rebecca TAYLOR, wife of the said Robert TAYLOR, appeared and relinquished her right of dower. Deed Book 6, page 220."[2]

I have not found Isaac's will as yet, but I have located his wife Elizabeth Ledbetter's will. It appears she remarried following Isaac's death to a "Rawlings", first name uncertain but possibly James. Her will was written 20 Nov 1801 in Greensville County, VA and probated in Jan of 1802.

Listed in her will as children of her deceased husband Isaac R. Walton are: Drury, Henry, David, Isaac, and Nancy.
