Biography

Elbert Waddell is Notable.

Elbert Waddell is one of twins.

Dr. E.E. "Doc" Waddell was an educator and community leader in Charlotte, North Carolina. Besides serving as a Principal and Superintendent for 20 year in the Charlotte school system, he founded a textile plant to help the city's Black citizens find employment. A high school, which is now a language academy, was named in his honor.^[1][2]

Elbert Waddell was born in 1922 in South Carolina. He was the son of Elbert Waddell and Rhoda Foster. ^[3] He had a twin brother, Edward.

In 1940 he was living with his mother and siblings in Spindale, North Carolina.^[4]

He received a Doctor of Education from Duke University. He served as Principal of Kingville High School for 20 years. He served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees at A&T State University, and was first President of the Western District Teacher's Association. He passed away in 1988 in Charlotte, North Carolina. ^[5] He was buried in Sunset Memorial Park in Forest City, North Carolina.^[6] He was survived by his wife, Dr. Joyce Davis Waddell.^[2]
