Political Life

First elected to the South Dakota State Senate for the 19th District, he would run for the Governor's office when fellow Progressive Coe I. Crawford decided to forego another term as governor and backed Vessey for the Republican Nomination for that office in the 1908 elections.

Elected to 2 terms, serving from 1909 to 1913. he would eschew a run for the US Senate and would retire to California to pursue business interests as well as a touring speaker.
