Biography

Richard was the son and heir of Warin de Vernon of Shipbrook, Cheshire, and Maud daughter of Reginald de Balliol. He had sons, Warin (who succeeded to the Barony of Shipbrook), Ralph, William (who succeeded to the manor of Haddon), Robert and Richard.[1]

Richard de Vernon of Harlaston, Staffordshire, was in favour with the future King John, who appointed him Sheriff of Lancaster in 1189, a position he held until John's rebellion in 1194, when his land at Harlaston was taken into King Richard's hands. His lands were restored on John's accession to the throne in 1199, and he again served as Sheriff of Lancaster from 1200 to 1205 (his son William deputising during his last six months in office).[2]

Sir Richard de Vernon had inherited Haddon Hall, Derbyshire, in right of his wife Avice daughter of William Avenel, by about 1192, when he was granted a licence by John, then Count of Mortain, during his brother Richard I's absence in the Holy Land, to strengthen the fortifications of the hall. He was living in 16 John (1214-5), but dead before 3 Henry III (1218-9).[3]

Death date of 1190 can't be correct if he had sons born in 1193 and 1195.

As far as I know, Richard's wife is unknown. He had four sons-the eldest Warine married Auda Malbank and the third son William, Chief Justice of Chester married Alice Avenall-daughter & co-heir of William Avenall of Haddon. Their sons became Lord of Haddons. See Collins Peerage of England Page 218 & 220.

Vernon-35 and Vernon-252 do not represent the same person because: They appear to be different generations.
Vernon-35 and Vernon-252 appear to represent the same person because: See p. 133, the pedigree has Richard as the son of Warin Vernon and a da. of Reginald de Balliot, 'described sometimes as the wife of Hugh, sometimes the wife of Warin', which would explain the different fathers. Note both profiles share the same spouse. See also p. 131, V. He had sons, Warin, Ralph, William, Robert and Richard (dsp).

Vernon-629 and Vernon-35 appear to represent the same person because: need to resolve dates
Vernon-252 had one other child, Ralph de Vernon 1193-1270.

I also have his death date as abt 1226 in Shipbrook, Northwich, Cheshire, England
