- "The Bengali slaves tended to be bought from the feringhi (Portuguese and mestizo raiders) off the Arakan coast. These slaves were then purchased at the port of Dinga."
- "India became such an imported part of the VOC trade that the VOC established direct sailing between Netherland and south India, without sailing to Batavia as the custom at first was. There were two sailing routes from the Cape to India, between August and January the ships would sail north following the coast of Africa, through the Mozambique strait and then round Madagascar to India. The other months they would sail east from Cape Town three hundred miles and then head north towards India. The journey to India took about 80 days. The return trip was usually done between the months of October and February."

A mother's birth date (Van Bengal-1 born 20 Oct 1669) should not be more than 67 years before the birth date of one of her children (Vermeulen-987 born 1740) .
A mother's death date (Van Bengal-1 died 30 Jan 1695) should not be before one of her children's birth dates (Vermeulen-987 born 1740) . (16435)
A death date (Van Bengal-1 died 30 Jan 1695) should not be before a spouse's birth date (Vermeulen-988 born 1720) .
RE: Error - I have remove the death date of 1683 to the bio's and replace it with 1695 as her daughter Jannetje was baptised on 30 Jan 1695, she was still alive with this event
Opklim-1 and Van Bengal-1 appear to represent the same person because: Same data Van_Bengal-1 has the nearest to correct LNAB ... but she was known by her nickname as 'Opklim'
There is a record for Catharina 'Opklim' Vermeulen Opklim-1 and a record for Catharina 'Groot Catrijn' van Palicatte van_Paliacatte-2 which are clearly separate, but there is a third record for Catharina van Bengal van_Bengal-1 which conflates the two. I would like to remove this third record and make all necessary adjustments...
There is no reference that I can find to Catharina "Groot Katrijn" van Paliacatte / van Bengale being referred to as "Opklim" (although she does seem to have been well frequented. I suggest that the mother of Jan Vermeulen is not the same person as the mother of Christoffel Snijman, and that they be seperated.
I have recently updated Catharina van Paliacatte, who was married among others to Hans C. Snijman. Her final marriage in 1671 was to Anthonij van Bengale. She died in 1683 and so could not have been married to Jan W. Vermeulen. I am trying to sort out the Snijman stamvader history, and wonder if someone could provide any reason why these record are confused. van Paliacatte was born c. 1630 and so on this detail also differs from this record.
Opklim-1 and Van Bengal-1 are not ready to be merged because: Though both profiles have Vermeulen as partner, 'Opklim' Catharina may very well be a different slave/concubine than Catharina 'from Paliccatte'. Needs to be researched further.
To all the respective profile managers - I'm still working on untangling the confused profiles of the different Cathrines and Helenas van Bengal / Paliacatta [etc]. See: http://www.e-family.co.za/ffy/ui41.htm#a0 (Descendants of Catharina van Palliacatta - Robertson, Delia. The First Fifty Years Project. http://www.e-family.co.za/ffy). It is going to take some time; I would appreciate your patience in this and cooperation. Proposal to use as far as the first immigrants (slaves) their known names and not married names, to help in keep duplicates at bay. Also small letters for 'van Bengale' etc. Sincerely, Philip van der Walt-440
