Biography

Mary's parentage has not been determined. Her origins are unknown.[1]

Mary ______ married William Lakin, son of Thomas Lakin,[1] by about 1622, probably in or near Ruddington, Nottinghamshire. William and Mary had two children:

  1. Lieut. William,[2] born about 10 June 1623, married Lydia Brown[1]
  2. Ens. John,[2] baptized at Ruddington, Nottinghamshire 1 November 1628, married Mary Bacon[1]

William Lakin was buried at Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, on 22 April 1633. He left a will dated 7 February 1632/3 that was proved in 1633 by his wife and the two witnesses.[1]

"Mary Lakyn, of Ruddington, widow", married second "William Martyn, of Bradmore, par. Bunney, husbandman" by license dated 22 July 1637 in Nottingham at St. Nicholas church.[1]

"About 1644, William and Mary Martin and her two Lakin children immigrated to New England. In that year, William Martin appeared as a proprietor at Reading, Massachusetts. He and his wife were admitted as members of the Reading church in 1648".[1]

The family moved to Groton, Massachusetts, where Mary eventually died on 14 August 1669.[1][2] William Martin died in Groton on 26 March 1672.

Research Note

Removed parents William Bacon and Rebecca Potter as the parents of this Mary are unknown. William and Rebecca Bacon's son John married a Mary Bacon.
