Half of my ancestry is very sketchy. On my Mother's side ( her maiden name was Waldo) I am immensely aided by the Genealogy of the Waldo Family which plus Ancestry searches has taken me back thru the Revolution to the early Puritan settlement in Massachusetts. On my Father's side I've been able to trace his family surname back to a German ancestor arriving in 1869, Carl Umland. My Father's Mother's American ancestry extends back to around 1818 and one ancestor who brings Scandinavian genes into the picture. And interesting finding from the Ancestry gene assessment is that I'm apparently more than 50% English. This I attribute to the fact that Saxons had a good deal to do with the formation of the English as well as Germans from Schleswig-Holstein.

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.
I am pleased to welcome you as a member of the WikiTree family. Your contributions will go a long way to joining the world’s trees together.
I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.
Please add as much information as you can, with sources, as it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.
Thank you for adding your DNA Test to your profile on WikiTree. Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.
DNA at WikiTree provides a visual way for you to find others who have tested and have the potential of having common ancestors. To get the best results, you need to start with yourself and add sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to existing profiles in WikiTree. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. 24 hours later, your test will have populated on the profiles of your ancestors and their descendants, where others with potential matches may also appear. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches which relate to the particular branches you are researching.
Have fun collaborating on your ancestors
