Steve Ullom

It has been a long time since you left me a message offering help. I do have a question. I maintain my genealogy on my computer in Family Tree Maker. I can export a GEDCOM file of my current tree. I would like to add all of it to my WikiTree profile. However, I see many of my ancestors in other people's existing tree.

1. How do I complete my WikiTree tree with an exported GEDCOM file. 2.Is there an easy way to eliminate duplicates or merge my info with existing people in other WikiTree members' profiles?

Hi Steve,

Here's a link to a page about the Current GEDCOMpare process. It was created by a former mentor and explains the ins and outs of using your GEDCOM file to both add profiles that don't already exist and update existing ones.

I usually work in family groups when doing the compares. Once all the family members on a compare page have been compared and either matched or rejected, add buttons will appear on the compare page for those family members that did not have matches.

Thanks Debi. I have my work cut out for me. My Family Tree Maker file has about 1300 people. I know that many of them are already in WikiTree managed by others. But at age 76, what else do I have to entertain myself.

Hi, Kirsty. It appears that you correctly merged two profiles of me, Ullom-89 and Ullom-154. That person is me. Now the entries for my sisters, which I had created, are now managed by you and I cannot see or edit them. I am not sure how that happened, but would you please transfer them back to my management?
