Biography

MARGUERITE OF FLANDERS, Countess of Flanders and Hainault, daughter and co-heiress, born in 1202.

She married (1st) before 23 July 1212 BOUCHARD D'AVESNES, he was born about 1175. They had three sons.[1]

  1. Baudouin d'Avesnes, died young before 1219
  2. Jean d'Avesnes, Count of Hainault (Henegouwen)
  3. Baudouin d'Avesnes

Bouchard and his wife, Marguerite, were divorced in 1221; he died in 1244.

Marguerite married (2nd) shortly before 15 Nov. 1223 GUILLAUME DE DAMPIERRE, son of Guy II de Dampierre, by Mathilde, daughter of Archambaud [VII]. They had three sons, and two daughters.[2]

  2. Guy de Dampierre
  3. Jean de Dampierre
  4. Jeanne de Dampierre
  5. Marie de Dampierre

GUILLAUME DE DAMPIERRE died 3 Sept. 1231. His widow, Marguerite, Countess of Flanders and Hainault, died 10 Feb. 1280.

Between 1191 and 1280, Flanders and the neighboring region of Hainaut were ruled as on united countship. The union was dissolved upon the death of Margaret in 1280. Her son, Guy de Dampierre, inherited Flanders and her grandson, Jean II D'avesnes took Hainaut.

D'hainaut-11 and Henegouwen-32 appear to represent the same person because: obviously meant to be the same person. same birth date (exact) and birth place (unusual). son also needs to be merged. LNAB should be Hainaut
