Biography

John was born about 1855, probably in Ballypriormore, Islandmagee, County Antrim, Ireland, the son of William Tweed and Mary Unknown.

He was a mariner and by 1881 he was a master mariner.^[1]

John emigrated to Australia where he married Elizabeth Unknown.^[2]

He passed away in 1891 at his residence at 8 Essex Street, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He is commemorated on the gravestone of the family plot in Ballypriormore Graveyard, Islandmagee. ^[3]

His son John who died at Melbourne 9th Oct. 1891 aged 36 years. The above named William Tweed departed this life 27th August 1903 aged 78 years. Also his wife Mary Tweed who departed this life 2nd May 1907 aged 83 years. Their son William records the death of his wife Sarah Tweed who departed this life 10th July 1918. The above named William Tweed who departed this life 25th May 1935.
