Caleb Trowbridge was born at New Haven, Connecticut, in late October of 1670, a son of Thomas Trowbridge and his first wife, Sarah Rutherford; he married the twice-widowed Mary (Howlett) [Emms] Lilly in July of 1704. The marriage was brief; Caleb died in mid-September. Mary was remarried in 1708 to mariner Capt. Thomas Gilbert.
