Research Notes

Age and year of birth: This varies a great deal. His Find a Grave memorial gives his birth year as 1801. The 1880 census gives it as 1803. The 1870 census makes him much younger: birth year 1821. The 1860 census gives it as about 1804.

Another Peter Treon? There is the possibility that he may be conflated with another Peter Treon of roughly similar age (b abt 1804/5) who appears to have died 21 Dec 1883 (two days earlier).

Parents: His Find a Grave memorial links him to Frederick Treon and wife Sara Gaugler Treon. I believe this may be a mistake. Until we find a marriage date for Frederick and second wife Sara, we cannot know for sure which children of Frederick's are descended from which of his wives.

Military service: His widow was listed in the 1890 schedule of veterans and his service was listed simply as bugler.
