Joseph was born in 1831. He is the son of James Tonkin and Nancy Hutchens. [1]

He emigrated to South Australia with his parents on the Cressy, arriving at Port Adelaide on 19 Aug 1847 [2]

Joseph married Elizabeth Jane Weymouth 27 Sep 1854 at St James Church in Blakiston, South Australia [3]

He passed away in 1908 aged 77. [4]

TONKIN. On the 26th May at Victor Harbor, Joseph Tonkin, aged 77 years, 42 years a resident of Victor Harbor. A colonist of 60 years. [5]
