Johann Tomschitsch was born on 7 June 1800 in Reuter #10, Gottschee, Krain, Austria (present-day Laze, Novo Mesto, Slovenia). He was the son of Bartholomew Tomschitsch and Maria Ahlorin.[1] His parents were most likely from Novo Mesto, since that is where they got married.[2]
His parents passed away when he was a child. He is listed alone in house #10[3] as well as in house #9 in the household of Johann Stalzer(?).[4]
He temporarily moved to Kleinriegel (present-day Mali Rigelj, Dolenjske Toplice, Slovenia) in his late-20s, and began a relationship with Maria Schusterschitz of house #4. He most likely lived in house #3, since that is where Maria gave birth on 22 June 1828 to their son, Johann Schusterschitz.[5][6] After Maria died later that year, Johann and his son moved back to his hometown and lived in house #1.[6]
Johann married Maria Stalzer of Neutabor #5 (present-day Novi Tabor, Semič, Slovenia) on 31 January 1842 (probably in Reuter)[7] and they settled in house #9, where they raised three children of their own: Georg, Agnes, and Andreas (only Andreas seems to have been biological).[8][9]
Johann passed away on 21 December 1858 in Reuter #9 and was buried two days later.[10]
