Born in Salem, which is now called New Salem.

After the death of his father, Timothy seems to have lived with his mother until her death. On 20 Mary 1811, he and his sister, Bethia, were bound to Thomas Maxson, who had had their sister, Nancy, since 1804. There is a story in Ritchie Co., History which says he and his brother were bound to strangers ad that their early days were sadly spent. We can find no record where his brother, Hezekiah, was bound out. No doubt, they had less than an easy life as orphans. After marriage, Timothy and Sarah settled on Bone Creek in Ritchie Co. where he became an extensive land owner.

“He was a man of very strict religious principles and was one of the corner-stones of the Auburn M.E. Church. He was the first successful merchant in Auburn, building a house of beech logs on the bank in the bend of Bone Creek, he served his customers, who were few and far between. He erected a tannery in 1852 and also the first mill in the area.” ^[1]
