Template:Nonmigrating Ancestor

Description

This profile was originally created as a companion for the Migrating Ancestor sticker, for people who didn't migrate. It is, however, very flexible and can be used on any profile as a "Born in/Lived in" sticker.

To add this sticker to a profile, place the string similar to the text in Code used: column of Examples table anywhere in the biography part of the profile. Usually you should put it next to the text describing a Sticker, but it should always be below the == Biography == heading and above the == Sources == heading.

This template is offered as an alternative to the Migrating Ancestor template (which has origin and destination), for individuals who did not move from one country to another. It can, however, be used on anyone's profile, including a migrating ancestor's profile and others whom you wish to note were born in or lived in a particular place, including your own profile. To see if a dedicated "born in" or "lived in" sticker exists for that place already, check Space: Relationship Stickers.

flag: Add the file name for a flag. See Template:Migrating Ancestor#Flags for links to pages with flag images you can choose from. You could also use {{US Flag|Virginia}}, which will insert the file name of the current Virginia flag: US_State_Flag_Images-49.png (this template works with any US state).

tooltip: This is text that appears in a pop-up box when you rest your mouse pointer over the flag image. For programs that read aloud, the Tool Tip is what the program reads when it passes over the image, so you want to include a very brief description of the image (e.g., Flag of Virginia). In html, this would be the alt-txt added for the image.

addinfo: Add a line or two of text as desired - you can add <br> to force a line break - but no more than about 175 characters (see Help:Stickers#Text).^[1][2]

1. ↑ I'd recommend no more than 75 characters. The following example - Native Virginian (born, married, and died in Prince William County) - is 67 characters.
2. ↑ location: This template has been updated to use the Sticker container, which does not accommodate the two variables - "location" and "addinfo" - which were previously available for the Nonmigrating Ancestor template. So that information added for location= was not lost, the coding for the current template's "addinfo" variable is {{{location|}}} {{{addinfo|}}}
   
   

Approved for use as a Recognition Box, now a Sticker. The Migrating Ancestor template was the model for the Immigrant sticker (now retired) used as a sample during discussions about changing Recognition Boxes and User Boxes to Stickers, see this G2G discussion.
