Research Note Box for Disproven Existence

{{Disproven Existence}} is a Research Note Box for profiles of people that research has shown never existed.

When you add {{Disproven Existence}} to a profile, it will also add [[Category:Disproven Existence]]. If other categories under Frauds and Fabrications apply, please add them also.

{{Disproven Existence}} should only be used on profiles that have been disconnected from the proven line. Profiles that have not yet been disconnected from the valid lineage should use the Research Notes box {{Uncertain Existence}} (which will place them in Category:Uncertain Existence, the category for profiles that may never have existed).

Important — This template should replace {{Uncertain Existence}} only after sufficient evidence has been added to the profile; notice has been posted in G2G (tag the surname, Disproven_Existence, and appropriate project or projects); consensus has been reached among researchers, projects, and profile managers; and connections to the proven line have been disconnected. The exception is when you are adding this template to a profile for someone whose existence has already been disproven by professional researchers and the profile includes citations to their scholarly, peer-reviewed, published works. Even then, you should first coordinate with the managers/projects and post notice in G2G. See Disproven Existence project for more information.

Placement

{{Disproven Existence}} should be the first template on the page, bumping any Project boxes to below any Research Notes boxes (this is an exception to the normal placement of Research Note Boxes; see the Placement section on the Disproven Existence project page for more information).

For example:

[[Category:Robert de Roquebrune Fabrications]]
{{Disproven Existence}}
{{Estimated Date}}
{{One Name Study|name=Roquebrune}}
== Biography ==

Always explain the usage of {{Disproven Existence}} in the profile (for example, in a Research Notes section). The explanation needs to include details to support the conclusion that the person never existed. Ideally, sources for these details would include peer-reviewed, scholarly articles, but not all false ancestors attract the interest of professional genealogists.

Removal

Simply removing {{Disproven Existence}} is not recommended. When you delete {{Disproven Existence}} to remove the box, please replace it with
{{Uncertain Existence}}
If the profile has any Project Boxes, move them up (standard Research Note Box Placement for {{Uncertain Existence}} applies).
