Biography

Daniel was born 21 Apr 1823. He died 30 Mar 1911 and was buried in Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Barbour County, West Virginia. ^[1] No birth or death records have yet been located. Dates of birth and death are clearly visible on the headstone.

Census Data

In the 1850 U.S. Census of District 5, Barbour County, WV, ^[2] Daniel "Tetes" is identified as age 27, born in Virginia. This would affirm his birth year of 1823. His occupation is identified as "farmer".

His inferred wife is identified as "Lubbila", and inferred children are as follows:

1. Sarah, age 7.
2. William, age 6.
3. Mary, age 2 months.

In the 1860 U.S. Census, ^[3] Daniel "Teetes" is 38 and his inferred wife "Louvena" is 37. The inferred children are as follows:

1. Sarah, age 17, working as "domestic".
2. William, age 16, working as "labourer".
3. Mary, age 10.
4. Rebecca, age 8.
5. Angeline, age 2.
6. Charles, age 9 months.

The 1870 U.S. Census finds the family in Union, Barbour County, WV. ^[4] Daniel Teets is 57 and Luvila is 46. As the other census records are all consistent with one another, Daniel's age should have been 47 at this time, and the age recorded is likely an error by the enumerator. The children are as follows:

1. Rebecca, age 18.
2. Angeline, age 13.
3. Charles, age 10.
4. John, age 6.
5. Etta, age 1.

In the 1880 U.S. Census of Union, Barbour, WV, ^[5] Daniel is again 57, and Louvila is 55 and finally identified as "wife". The only children remaining in the household are:

1. Rebecca, age 25.
2. Charles, age 20.
3. John, age 16.
4. Etta, age 11.

The official death certificate for Charles Teets lists his birthday as 28 Jan 1861. ^[6] As he was officially enumerated at the age of 9 months in the 1860 U.S. Census, it is reasonable to conclude this birthdate was given in error. His likely birthdate was 28 Jan 1860. His parents are listed as "Daniel Teets", born in Virginia, and "Luvila Michels", also born in Virginia.

The official death certificate for John Teets lists his birthday as 15 Apr 1864, consistent with the census records above. ^[7] His parents are identified as "Daniel Teets" and "Louvila Michaels".
