Zachary Taylor Sr.'s date of death is "before February 1768" as he died before the 29th of February 1768, based on the deed of Zachary Taylor Jr. to his brother Hancock Taylor for land that had belonged to his father Zachary Taylor Sr. [4] . There is a similar dated deed from Zachary Taylor Jr. to his brother Richard Taylor. The deed from Zachary Taylor Jr. to Hancock Taylor reads in part as follows: "This Indenture made this twenty ninth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & sixty eight Between Zachary Taylor of the County of Orange of the one part and Hancock Taylor of the county aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Zachary Taylor for & in consideration of the natural love and affection which he hath and beareth unto his Brother the said Hancock Taylor, as also for and in consideration of the sum of five shillings current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said Hancock Taylor the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath given granted bargained and sold and by these presents, do give grant bargain sell & confirm unto the said Hancock Taylor his heirs and assigns forever, all that tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the said County of Orange being part of the land whereon my father Zachary Taylor dec'd lately lived containing by estimation five hundred acres of land more or less and bounded as followeth Begining at three white oaks saplins corner to Thomas Bell on the side of a branch thence down the said branch the several courses there of 54 poles to a poplar and two white oaks corner to Richard Taylor and Thomas Bell thence down . . . to the beginning. . . In Witness whereof the said Zachary Taylor hath hereunto set his hand & seal the day and year first above written [signed] Zachary Taylor Signed Sealed & delivered in the presence of us James Taylor, R'd Taylor, Francis Taylor At a Court held for Orange County on Thursday the 24th of March 1768 This Indenture was acknowledged by Zachary Taylor to Hancock Taylor & is ordered to be recorded Test Geo. Taylor COC."[5]
Zachary Taylors Sr.'s estate inventory was authorized by the court of Orange county, Virginia as follows: "Pursuant to an order of the Court of Orange directed to us the subscribers (being first sworn by Capt Rowland Thomas) we have inventoried & appraised the estate of Mr. Zachary Taylor deceased the twenty ninth day of March 1768 as contained in this and the two following pages viz: [list of items owned by Zachary Taylor Sr. are found on pages 391, 392, 393 & 394] [signed] Robert Terrell, William Bell, Andrew Shepherd At a Court held for Orange County on Thursday the 28th April 1768 this inventory & appraisement of the Estate of Zachary Taylor Dec'd was this day returned & ordered to be recorded Test Geo. Taylor C.O.C."[6]
