Pieter Suys was a son of Daniel Suys Allardsz and Agatha Pieter Nevendr, also called Agatha van Steenhuizen.^[1][2] He was born around 1443.^[3]

Records

According to a record registered after Pieter's death in 1501 tells us his wife was named Jan van der Burch Willemsdr.This same record mentions two of their children: Jacob Suys and Willem Suys.^[4] A 1463 record also says Johanna, daughter of Willem van der Burch, was his wife.^[1] A 1478 record says his wife was Johanna van der Burch.^[5] Pieter had a son named Cornelis Suys according to records from 1502.^[6][7] He also had son named Allard Suys, brother of Daniel Suys, according to another record from 1502.^[1] A record from 1476 says that Willem Suys was Johanna Willemsdr van der Burch's, wife of Pieter Suys, second son, and Allairt was a younger son.^[8] A record from 1506 tells us Johanna van der Burch, married to Pieter Suys, had a son named Jan Suys Pietersz.^[9] Cornelis Suys Pietersz had a sister named Katrijn according to a record from 1516.^[10]

Daily Life

Pieter Suys is mentioned as schout of Rijswijk in 1494^[3][12] and 1495.^[13] Geryt Phillipsz die Bloot, who was schout of Rijswijk in March of 1493.^[14] In November of 1493 Jacob Reyniersz was schout of Rijswijk.^[15] Pieter became schout of Rijswijk after Jacob. He was succeeded by Huysse Aelbrechtsz, who was mentioned as schout of Rijswijk in 1496 and 1498.^[16][17] Pieter was mentioned schout of Rijswijk again in 1500.^[18] After Pieter passed away, the position of schout passed down to his son Allart, who was mentioned as schout of Rijswijk in December 1501 (Julian calendar, 1st of January 1502 on the Gregorian calendar).^[19]

This means Pieter was schout of Rijswijk twice: once from about 1494-1495, and then once again from probably ~1499 up until his death in 1501.

Death

Pieter Suys died in April of 1501, and was buried in the church of Rijswijk.^[4][20][21]
