Henry Gerard Sturt, 1st Baron Alington of Crichel was born on 16 May 1825. He was the son of Henry Charles Sturt and Lady Charlotte Penelope Brudenell.
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England. He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dorchester between 1847 and 1856. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dorset between 1856 and 1876.
He gained the title of 1st Baron Alington of Crichel, Dorset [U.K.] on 15 January 1876.
1st Marriage
On 10 September 1853, Henry Gerard Sturt married, firstly, Lady Augusta Bingham, daughter of Field Marshal George Charles Bingham, 3rd Earl of Lucan and Lady Anne Brudenell.
2nd Marriage
He married, secondly, on the 10th February, 1892 at St. Paul's, Knightsbridge, London, England, United Kingdom, Evelyn Henrietta Leigh, daughter of Henry Blundell Leigh and Henrietta Dorothy Hawkes.
Lord Henry Gerard Sturt, 1st Baron Alington of Crichel passed away on the 17th February, 1904 at the age of 78 at Wimborne, Dorset, England, United Kingdom. [1]
